Camping...
I am by no means a very good "camper" I get bug squeamish and i really like my cooked food..I also cant stand the dark without company..
But I did decided with the recent heatwave that I would take my three kids camping!
there I saw headlines in the next day paper about a campground and a crazy gunman... So we set off on a 21/2 hour drive to the Berkshires, to a really great place called Privacy campground. I set up a tent by myself, and started a rather small but nice fire.. We told stories about when we were babies (stories about me from my mom and stories about them from me) it was great! There were no bugs and the night was calm. We all snuggled into the tent and after I finished with the requisite bedtime songs i snuck out of the tent to sneak a beer by the fire.. amazingly i was also ready for bed at..9 PM!!! So I crawled in with all my cute kiddies and slowly drifted off.. . Only problem was around 10 p.m really loud fire works started to go off on a neighboring farm.. then I thought momentarily that it might be gun shots... then the longer I laid there the more I thought about the next day's newspaper headlines..."crazy man kills sleeping family in campground"...AHHHH go to sleep! Too much imagination!
I did eventually pass out and have nice dreams of forests and swimming and fun. All of a sudden I realized in a swimming dream that I was in fact really wet! I rolled over and sat up and realized in fact not only was I wet but my hair and t-shirt were dripping... O.k it is dark and the kids are sleeping and I'm thinking maybe this is a dream... but no. 3A.m and I am covered in PEE!
So I start stripping the bedding, changing the kids all with a flashlight hanging out of my mouth...
by now it is almost 4.. and so I try with all my might to snuggle under the last dry sheet and get some sleep!
Around 5 A.m I call it quits because we are cold and wet and so we all get up and saunter on over to the bathroom for a shower.. of course this is an amazing green earth friendly campground where the water is 10 cents for 3 min and solar powered... It was a VERY cold shower with a lot of shushing the kids complaints so that they would not wake up all the other campers...
Well that could have stopped us. In fact it was just the beginning. We went out for breakfast and to a laundromat that day and visited some friends. And we kept camping every weekend for the next few weeks.

Laundry!
Yes, yes , laundry!
It never ends.. just when you think you've done it all, someone pees the bed or you realize when going through your daughters drawers that half the clothes in there have been put away dirty...
Hmmm my mom used to talk about laundry, how she had garbage bags full and had to take us and the laundry on subways and crap to get to the laundry mat..later on we had our own wringer washing machine. I also remember my mom getting her fingers caught in the rollers and getting an electric shock when i tried with wet fingers to unplug the machine.Yikes.
Ive been to Mexico and washed cloth diapers on a stone for 5 months, at least that felt like an accomplishment, better than throwing 1.50$ into the washer and dryer we have here in graduate housing..blargh
..oh all the times you get your laundry to realize it hasn't spun, or the dryer starts to smoke...
But there are nice times too, like when it's a really cold day and your mom throws your clothes in the dryer for a sec to heat them up for you...ah yah...
